The Eight Limbs of Yoga Series - 8. SAMADHI

In Patañjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Eight Limbs of Yoga act as guidelines on living a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a prescription for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline, directing our attention toward our health and help us acknowledge the spiritual aspects of our nature.

About The Event

In Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, the eightfold path is called Ashtanga, which literally means "eight limbs".

Laur Bee and Sri Vijay Anand will guide you through eight sessions where you can delve deeper into yogic philosophy and learn how to incorporate Patanjali's teachings into our modern lives.

Session 8. SAMADHI

Complete bliss or enlightenment.

This is the final step of the journey of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. After we’ve re-organised our relationships with the outside world and our own inner world, we come to the finale of bliss. When we look at the word samadhi though, we find out that ‘enlightenment’ or ‘realisation’ does not refer to floating away on a cloud in a state of happiness and ecstasy, it is about dropping away and being gone, where a real deep connection is felt with all living things. You can say the meditator merges with the point of focus and transcends the Self-altogether, it’s about realising the very life that lies in front of us.

The ability to ‘see equally’ without our experience being conditioned by likes, dislikes or habits, without a need to judge or become attached to any particular aspect; that is bliss. Once the mind is pure and we truly do experience a state of Samadhi we can keep hold of, we attain moksha, also known as mukti, meaning a permanent state of being liberated, released and free.

During the two hour workshop there will be a 45 minute asana practice based around SAMADHI and throughout the session we will discuss what Patanjali meant by SAMADHI and how we can use these practices in our modern lives.

*There will be eight sessions on each of the Eight Limbs, please feel free to join any that attract you, and a discount is offered when booking all eight.
