Ayurvedic Cooking and Healthy Lifestyle workshop

About The Event
Ayurveda is the traditional, ancient Indian system of health science. Its name literally means, "life knowledge." The Ayurvedic method of holistic healthcare emphasizes balancing the body, mind, and spirit to treat and prevent disease. This 5,000-year-old practice focuses on harmonizing the body with nature through diet, herbal remedies, yoga and meditation, exercise, lifestyle, and body cleansing. It is considered the sister science of yoga.
In Ayurveda food plays a prominent role in promoting health and is therefore considered medicine. Food nourishes not only the body but the mind and awareness as well. In Ayurveda food, drinks, and spices are categorized according to their taste (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent and astringent), the energetic effect they have on the doshas, as well as their post-digestive effect on the tissues. Many of the spices used in Ayurvedic cooking such as turmeric, ginger, cumin, fenugreek, coriander and cardamom etc, are also medicinal herbs used in Ayurveda.
Cooking daily with those spices can greatly enhance digestion, absorption and assimilation of food, improve one's appetite and elimination, nourish the internal organs and prevent doshic imbalance. In this workshop you will - learn about the energetic effects of different foods - learn to choose a suitable diet to bring balance, harmony and health into your life based on Ayurvedic principles and your body type - learn about compatible and incompatible food combinations - learn about easy ways to detox.
Are you Vata, Pitta or Kapha? Identify your predominant type and learn which foods will help to keep you in balance. The program starts at 10.00 with a talk about Ayurveda and a questionnaire where you can find out about your constitution then we are going to cook together and enjoy what we cooked.
